About Cherry Flooring
Grain - Cherry is a close grained species so the grain is less noticeable than species such as Oak or Hickory. The tighter grain gives the wood a smoother appearance.
Color - Cherry is known for its red tone but it also has some color variation leaning towards greens and yellows. The heartwood of a Cherry log is deep red with little color variation, while the sapwood is more yellow and prone to a beautiful array of color variations. Orders can be customized to maximize or minimize sapwood. These color variations will diminish as the wood darkens from age and exposure to sunlight.
Character marks - Cherry is not known for extensive character marks such as knots or bark, however a Cherry floor can be ordered in a higher grade to minimize knots in the wood.
