Ever wanted to feel like you’re walking through a French palace right in your own space? That’s exactly the vibe of our latest Hardwood Mall installation. The homwowners went with a classic Versailles pattern for these floor panels— the exact same style made famous way back in the 1600s at the actual Palace of Versailles in France.

To give it that perfect, rich color, we treated the panels with a Castle Brown Rubio finish. Rubio is awesome because it protects the floor in a single coat while keeping the wood looking super natural and matte. The Castle Brown shade gives the brand-new white oak a warm, slightly vintage feel that makes it look like it’s been there for centuries.

For the wood itself, we used premium solid white oak. We love working with white oak because it’s incredibly durable, has a gorgeous natural grain, and takes to custom stains like an absolute dream.

We custom-built all of these intricate panels offsite in our shop! Piecing together that complex Versailles geometry takes serious precision. By building the panels in our controlled workshop beforehand, we were able to make sure every single angle and weave was absolutely flawless. Plus, it’s a huge win for the homeowner—it meant way less sawdust, noise, and downtime at the actual house. Once they were ready, we just brought the completed panels in and got right to the installation.

The rich, earthy tones of the Versailles panels play off the artwork on the walls, making the room feel incredibly grand but still totally inviting. When the natural light from those big arched windows hits the wood grain, it highlights the intricate pattern and brings the whole room to life.
