In 1960, Clinton Hepler bought Seneca Hardwood Lumber Co. and began to build the company into a flourishing, regional supplier of hardwood products. One of his favorite sayings was, "We're not perfect, but we are the best there is."
Progressing into the 1980's and 90's, Clinton and his sons, Wayne and Orie, developed a national network of distributors and added a new facility dedicated to producing specialty flooring products.
As the business grew, timberland, and even a state-of-the-art band-sawmill, were acquired.
This expansion allowed for a vertical integration from the standing tree to the finished hardwood floor. For particularly customized products, controlling the entire process of milling hardwood, from forest to solid flooring was, and remains, a clear asset.
In the early 2000's Wayne Hepler, Clinton oldest son, decided to construct the Hardwood Mall as a new retail outlet for homeowners and builders. He designed the building to house a reclaimed barn and outfitted the various rooms with spectacular floors, trim, and molding to help inspire customers.
Wayne has since handed down the business to the third generation, and to this day every component remains family owned and operated.
Joe Kolesar, current owner of the Hardwood Mall, is married to Carrie, Wayne's eldest daughter. Joe and Carrie continue to raise their family in the woods of Western Pennsylvania while growing the Hardwood Mall into a thriving business.
Throughout the years, the Hardwood Mall has expanded to be a major supplier of hardwood products for homeowners and contractors alike.
Now, with the addition of an in-house installation crew, customers can not only purchase their flooring from the very people who logged the trees but can also have that same, trusted source install the product into their homes. Below is Max (left), head of the install crew, and Joe, owner of the Hardwood Mall. (Read more about in-house installations here.)
