While microbevels are traditionally used on prefinished flooring to handle slight height variations, these customers wanted them for a completely different reason. They chose to have us mill a 4-sided microbevel into the raw Character White Oak, then sand and finish everything right on site. The bevels create a distinct shadow line around every single 6" board, framing the unique grain and knots of the wood and giving the entire floor a highly defined, plank look.

We finished the floor with Rubio Monocoat in Castle Brown. Because Rubio is a hardwax oil that bonds molecularly with the wood fibers rather than sitting on top like a traditional polyurethane, it leaves a dead-flat matte finish. The Castle Brown tone settles beautifully into the character marks of the white oak, delivering a rich, lived-in feel without any plastic-like glare.

An entryway is the perfect spot to transition from standard flooring to a custom pattern. For this project, we installed a herringbone focal point right at the front door, framing it out with a straight-laid border. Even when using the exact same wood species and finish throughout the house, switching to a herringbone pattern in the foyer creates a distinct, built-in rug effect that clearly defines the entry space.

If you want to create an immediate sense of direction when guests walk through the door, a herringbone entryway is a great choice. The natural "arrows" of the pattern pull the eye forward, creating an intentional flow that guides you straight into the main living areas. It’s a simple design detail that makes a strong first impression without overwhelming the space.
